More Football

Within a matter of days, football will sadly again become the proverbial substitute for war, especially in the case of the English team, their blindly loyal supporters and the flag waving hordes at home.

Heaven forbid then that Rooney, Beckham + Co (No, England are apparently not a team, but a collection of celebrities in Georgio Armani, Italian, suits) should have the misfortune to meet Germany, or even worse....to lose to them! I have absolutely no doubt that the tabloid media will inevitably rush to the rescue, with the customary mono-syllabic xenophobia, with the mainstream media in tow, desperate not to be outdone.

Why is it that merely enjoying the beautiful game seems to be the furthest thing from everyone's minds......in England at least?

How many times have we now heard mention of WWII? Am I under the misapprehension that about 60 years have elapsed since that awful global tragedy?

Guess it will nevertheless be hugely entertaining to see the kind of elegance which one has now come to expect of the likes of Brazil and other such creative teams.

World Cup 2006 will be an enjoyable event, despite the best efforts of the xenophobes.

World Cup 2006

Can the owners of the 11 pairs of feet, upon whom the ambitions of the nation rest, rise to the status of heroes?
